About Us

The Dugdemona Soil and Water District is one of forty-four conservation districts on Louisiana. It is the political subdivision of the state government which is responsible for conservation of soil, water and other related resources within its boundaries. The district's boundary is Winn Parish, Jackson Parish and that portion Caldwell Parish that lies west of the Ouachita River.

The district was organized in March 1939 to make the people aware of the need to conserve land, the problems that affect their daily lives, and to enable people to work together to conserve and develop their soil and water resources. The district and the Soil Conservation Service entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with each other, and work to assist landusers in the district.

The district is governed by a board of five supervisors. These supervisors serve a term of three years. Three of the members are elected by qualified voters of the district and two are appointed by the Louisiana Soil and Water Conservation Committee.

The district operates on an annual appropriation from the State Legislature. State funds are used to employ needed personnel and to help with operating the district. The district employs a clerk to handle their business and to assist the Soil Conservation Service  with secretarial work. The district and SCS work as a single unit to help people solve soil, water and other related resource problems. Dugdemona Soil and Water Conservation District's office is located at 301 West Main Street, Suite 210, Winnfield, LA 71483.
